Welcome to Brassai.org

This website has recently been registered (2007) by the Prodan Romanian Cultural Foundation of London (www.romanianculture.org) and will be used to celebrate and survey the life and work of the photographer Brassai (Gyula Halasz, 1899-1984), who was born at Brasso in Romania and was of Hungarian ethnic background. He gave himself the professional name Brassai, which means 'man from Brasso'. He was one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century. He lived most of his life in France. The Montparnasse Cultural Foundation (www.montparnassefoundation.org) is undertaking this project jointly with the Prodan Foundation.
